Top Nine of 2025

The Oscars are tomorrow, so here is my list of the top nine movies from last year.

It’s nine instead of ten because, in my opinion, this was a pretty weak year for film. I saw everything nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, and I thought ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER was the one. Below are the rest.

Corey Feldman Vs. The World - if Spinal Tap was real life.

It Was Just An Accident - Iranian cinema, man.

The Naked Gun - I’m no comedy expert, but it felt to me like this movie contained every type of joke possible.

Nuremberg - some of the best transitions I’ve seen in years.

One Battle After Another - the movie of the moment, in so many ways. Benicio Del Toro FTW.

The Perfect Neighbor - the future of documentary filmmaking?

The Secret Agent - life under dictatorship.

Train Dreams - gives lie to that line about "realistic films” by Robert McKee in ADAPTATION.

Warfare - perhaps the most realistic war film ever.
